Mixing, editing: Revolution 1, Revolution 9

Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
                    Producer: George Martin
                    Engineer: Geoff Emerick

Work on both ‘Revolution 1’ and ‘Revolution 9’ finished on this day, with final mixing and editing in a session which took place from 2-8pm.

Revolution 1 had five new stereo mixes made, numbered 8-12, which superseded those made on 21 June 1968. Revolution 9 was then edited from 9’05” to a slightly more palatable 8’12”.

The session ended with tape copies being made of stereo mix 12 of Revolution 1 and the edit of stereo mix 2 of Revolution 1. After this both tracks were ready for release.

John Lennon was the only member of The Beatles present for this session. Paul McCartney was returning from the United States on this day, and George Harrison was elsewhere at EMI Studios producing and performing on Jackie Lomax’s song Sour Milk Sea.
